Empowering Women in the Food Safety Industry on International Women’s Day

On March 8th, we celebrated International Women’s Day by honoring the remarkable women at Fortrex. This day is dedicated to recognizing women, whose contributions have significantly shaped our world throughout history. By shining a light on their successes, we inspire future generations to dream big and pursue their ambitions without limits.
At Fortrex, we take great pride in the women on our team who consistently prove to be resilient and determined. We are committed to creating an environment where women can thrive and excel in their roles, making a meaningful impact in the food safety sector.

We talked to three women on our team, and here’s the advice they shared for other women entering the food safety industry:

Karyn Wallace, Director of Regional Sales

“Stay curious and believe in yourself. Embrace continuous learning through courses, workshops, or self-study, as ongoing development is essential. Have confidence in your skills and don’t hesitate to tackle new challenges.”

Amanda Fryar, Food Safety Director

“My top advice is to focus on continuous learning and self-improvement to become the best version of yourself! Take lessons from those around you; some of the most valuable insights I’ve gained came from individuals working directly on the line. Embrace being a woman in this field, as you offer a unique and valuable perspective. Leverage that individuality to achieve great things and help lead the industry into the future.”

Rocio Chacon, Learning and Development Partner, Field HR

“Don’t be afraid to speak up. The food safety field requires people to speak up when there’s a risk, whether it’s contamination, non-compliance, or safety hazards. Don’t shy away from voicing your concerns or offering solutions, even if you’re newer to the industry. Your insights matter.
Navigate potential gender biases: The food safety and sanitation industry is often male-oriented, especially in technical or leadership roles. While gender bias can be present, approach it with resilience, and don’t let it deter you from pursuing your goals.”

Today and every day we recognize not only the vital role of women in the food safety industry but also the women in our company across all departments. We are fortunate to have a team that empowers one another and embraces the training and development opportunities at Fortrex, helping each other excel and become leaders in our field. At Fortrex, we are dedicated to cultivating a culture of inclusion that recognizes and values the vital roles women play in our organization.
